Asia Pacific Coordination team (APC)
The vision for these advisory committees is for the work to be taken up by local Deaf leaders. The advisory committees meet regularly with teams to advise them on various topics, including training, technical support, team dynamics, organizational relationship, church engagement, and project design and implementation. |
In addition to providing regular support for existing teams and building capacity in local Deaf to take up responsibility for these committees, the APC is also responsible for connecting with Deaf communities where translation has not yet started.
Deaf Arts and Trauma Healing
Many Deaf grow up marginalized and looked down on, and very few have access to any kind of counseling services. Growing up in this context leads to a negative view of their Deaf identity, including their language, culture, and own self-worth. During the workshop, the Deaf discussed what “arts” were, how art is expressed in their own languages and cultures, and how to observe and ask questions about things they see in other cultures. |
Through the workshop, the participants learned to value the art forms of their own culture and those of others, as well as how to use these art forms in scripture engagement.
During the pandemic, APSDA and GSLT continued to meet with participants online to further explore concepts from both arts and trauma healing. It was decided that, for Deaf communities, trauma healing should always incorporate arts.
APSDA and GSLT have since been working together to further contextualize Arts and Trauma Healing training for the Deaf. Three of APSDA’s members are being trained as trauma healing facilitators, and one as a Deaf Arts consultant. Since 2022, these three, together with a GSLT facilitator, have been providing trauma healing workshops for teams and members of Deaf communities in Asia, incorporating both arts and scripture to help the Deaf understand the value of their languages and cultures and start working through trauma they have experienced.

Information Technology
APSDA provides IT training to the Deaf group, including video studio setup, website setup, apps, and solving technology problems. Not only training, translation projects share their experiences, skills, and new things, so they help each other to process translation projects better and smoothly. |
Exegetical Consultant
APSDA and GSLT continue to meet online to discuss Biblical concepts, language, history, places, and other topics so that we can provide better comprehension for the Deaf Translation Project. We assign Deaf trainees to serve as exegetical assistants when the Deaf Translation Project requires them. |
